The Impact of the Internet on Public Relations and Business Communications

Client: Council of Public Relations Firms
Released December, 2000

The Council of Public Relations Firms is an industry association whose members include the biggest PR firms in the world. While Rick was still at IMT Strategies, he conducted this study for the CPRF, managing to interview (with assistance from other IMT analysts) 100 business professionals who touched on the PR "value chain" (including chief marketing and communication professionals inside large companies, PR agencies large and small, journalists, industry analysts and more). The common line of questioning was, as the report's title indicated, how companies were (or were not) incorporating the Internet into their corporate communications strategies.

Among the highlights:

The communications industry is not a leader in the Internet revolution
Internet-enabled networked communications will force change
Six leadership strategies for the future
Four roles will command a premium for public relations and business communications in the future (but you'll have to read the report to find out what!)
