I'm blogging to you live from the NY @d:tech show. So far, I haven't been able to see any of the content, but already I can tell you this is the best industry trade show I've been to all year. Unofficial numbers have them expecting 2,500 attendees and roughly 70 exhibiting vendors, and those numbers look realistic, from what I've seen. The networking, in any event, is excellent. I've barely caught my breath since arriving from numberous conversations with long-time industry insiders. The mood is...well, "cautiously optimistic" sounds about the right cliche. Will update with more thoughts later this week.
Two amusing things to note: 1) lamest tchotchke: a paper coffee cup from VirtuallyThere.com (true, it did earn them a PR mention here, for whatever that's worth, but out of spite I'm not going to actually hyperlink to them), and 2) I just watched amateur pornographer Ugly George get turned away from attempted to gain access to @d:tech at the press room (now him I'll give a link to; you might have to have lived in NY in the '80s to know why that's funny). Too bad he didn't get in. I, for one, would love to see the "@d:tech Girls Gone Wild" video.
